Muslim Journeys Book Club 2016/2017

Muslim Journeys Book Club 2016/2017 In-Person

Ms. Marvel (comics) by G. Willow Wilson, led by Morgan Shipley, Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of Religious Studies.  Cosponsored by the MSU Comics Forum.

The MSU Muslim Studies Program and MSU Libraries are hosting a new Muslim Journeys scholar-led book discussion series in 2016-2017. This series focuses on Islam in the U.S. and on different genres of Muslim American literature. Our aim is to bring the campus and community together to read and learn about the diversity of Muslim American history, culture, and literature. The 2016-2017 series is co-sponsored by the Islamic Society of Greater Lansing and the Interfaith Clergy Association of Greater Lansing.

Each session will begin with a short lecture from a scholar, followed by smaller group book discussions, and ending with questions and answers. The smaller group discussions will be facilitated by MSU graduate students.

Participants are encouraged to read the book ahead of time, and attend as many sessions as possible.

All sessions are free and open to the public; light refreshments will be served. Community members, undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited to participate. There is ample free parking near the Main Library after 6pm, including in Stadium Lot 62E (employee lot) on Red Cedar Rd.

The books will be available for purchase at Schuler’s and Everybody Reads, and will be available for reading “on reserve” at the MSU Main Library. For free interlibrary loan, use MelCat (see links to each book at http://libguides.lib.msu.edu/muslimstudies/muslimjourneys).
