Experimental Design In The Digital Humanities In-Person

Experimental design is at the heart of digital humanities research; it is important that DH practitioners learn how and why to conduct an experiment using humanities data. While readymade DH tools are useful, these interdisciplinary habits of mind extend well beyond the life cycle of any particular technology, and are necessary for rigorous and flexible research in digital humanities. In this workshop, participants will 1.) review the basic components of experimental design, 2.) develop their own humanities experiment, using a much-loved text, 3.) test preliminary hypotheses, 4.) develop an assignment for use in a course.

Part of the MSU Digital Humanities Workshop series, this introductory workshop is open to anyone - students, faculty, staff, the public - from any disciplinary background.
