Advanced Prompting Strategies for Educators: Getting Better Output from AI ***Walk-ins Welcome***

Advanced Prompting Strategies for Educators: Getting Better Output from AI ***Walk-ins Welcome*** In-Person / Online

Are you using AI tools like ChatGPT but not always getting the results you want? This hands-on workshop dives into the strategies behind effective prompting so you can get high-quality, relevant, and pedagogically aligned output from AI tools. We’ll explore role-based, iterative, and chained prompts that help with course design, assignment creation, content development, and more. You’ll leave with reusable prompt templates, troubleshooting tips, and the confidence to use AI as a reliable partner in your teaching practice.

Upon completion of this learning experience, participants will be able to:

  • describe the key elements of an effective AI prompt and explain how specificity, context, and clarity influence the quality of AI-generated outputs
  • apply role-based and persona-driven prompting strategies to tailor AI responses for instructional design, assessment creation, and content development
  • use iterative prompting techniques to refine, expand, and improve AI-generated materials over multiple interactions
  • chain prompts together strategically to complete complex teaching tasks (e.g., generating aligned learning objectives, assessments, and rubrics)
  • develop and adapt prompt templates for recurring teaching activities across different course formats and student needs
  • troubleshoot ineffective prompts and revise them using structured strategies for clarity, relevance, and pedagogical alignment
  • evaluate AI-generated content for quality, usefulness, and alignment with learning goals, ensuring it supports rather than undermines instructional intentions.
