Crafting Your Curriculum: Exploring Curriculum Through Making, Reflection, and Correspondence Online

Curriculum is often discussed through documents, outcomes, and course designs, yet educators' understandings of curriculum are shaped by experiences, values, relationships, and institutional contexts that can be difficult to articulate through conversation alone. This learning community invites faculty, academic staff, graduate educators, and administrators to explore curriculum through hands-on making, critical reading, and collaborative reflection.
Each month, participants will receive a mailed kit containing a short reading, reflection prompts, and materials for a creative activity. Using simple crafting and construction exercises, participants will create physical representations of curricular concepts such as coherence, hidden curriculum, learning pathways, assessment, belonging, interdisciplinarity, and educational transformation. During virtual meetings, members will share their creations, discuss the accompanying scholarship, and consider how these ideas manifest in their own educational contexts.
This learning community explores curriculum through the creation of physical models and metaphors that help educators examine and communicate complex ideas about teaching, learning, and educational design. Drawing on traditions of reflective practice and curriculum inquiry, participants will use hands-on materials to externalize and interrogate their assumptions about curriculum, creating opportunities for deeper dialogue across disciplines and educational contexts.
