Mental Health First Aid Training for Academic Advisors In-Person
Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training that teaches people how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of a mental health or substance use challenge in adults ages 18 and over. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it builds mental health literacy, providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address a potential mental health or substance use challenge.
This event is designed, in collaboration with the Hope Network, for academic advisors seeking to enhance their skills in providing mental health support. Space is limited, please only register if can commit to this full-day training. For all registrants, a module will be sent by the Hope Network with a small amount of pre-work to complete before the live training. Registration will close one week before the event date.
Upon completion of this learning experience, participants will be able to:
- Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health/substance use challenges
- Understand how to interact with a person in crisis
- Know how to connect a person with help
- Use self-care tools and techniques
