MSU Day of Dignity

MSU Day of Dignity In-Person

Celebrate Humanity, Uplift Community

Where: MSU Main Library - ground floor (by ATMs)
When: October 15, 2025 - anytime between 10am-3pm

Join us for Michigan State University’s inaugural Day of Dignity, a campus-wide celebration inspired by Global Dignity Day—an international movement committed to fostering a culture of compassion, inclusion, and respect.

Since 2006, Global Dignity has since reached over 3 million people across 80 countries, encouraging communities to recognize the inherent worth of every person and the shared humanity that connects us all. This event also draws from the work of dignity scholar Donna Hicks, whose twelve essential elements of dignity—including recognition, safety, fairness, accountability, and inclusion—offer a powerful framework for building trust and healing relationships. Together, these principles remind us that dignity is not just a concept—it’s a daily practice rooted in how we treat one another and how we shape our communities.

Why Dignity?
Dignity is the belief that every person matters equally. It’s not earned—it’s inherent. Honoring dignity means treating others with respect simply because they are human. When we uphold dignity in our words and actions, we create more just, compassionate, and inclusive communities.

Experience the Power of Dignity Through:

  • A “Dignity in Practice” educator panel
  • Art quote transfers to take home and inspire
  • Affirmation tokens to lift spirits and spread positivity
  • A Gratitude Wall to honor those who affirm our dignity
  • A Commitment Wall where you can offer a small act of kindness—and take one to pledge to carry forward

This event is brought to you by a coalition of passionate partners across MSU, including CTLI, IEI, AAAS, ISP, POE, UHW, College of Music, JMC, FRIB, the Library, and Spartan Resilience.

Whether you’re a student, staff member, faculty, or community guest, this is your invitation to pause, reflect, and act. Let’s build a culture of compassion, respect, and shared humanity—one moment, one story, one act at a time.

Because dignity isn’t just a value—it’s a practice.
