D2L Checklists: A Simple Tool to Improve Course Navigation

D2L Checklists: A Simple Tool to Improve Course Navigation Online

D2L offers many features to support student success, and one that is underutilized is the Checklist tool. Checklists provide a centralized space for students to track their progress, ensuring that they are aware of all tasks needed to meet the learning goals of the course. By integrating checklist items with the D2L calendar, students can quickly access relevant course materials, discussions, and assignments, thereby enhancing organization and reducing confusion. Given the variety of ways to structure a D2L course, creating a consistent and centralized location for task management can help minimize student stress and improve their ability to navigate course expectations efficiently.

This presentation will demonstrate how to effectively implement D2L checklists to enhance student organization and engagement. Attendees will learn how to connect checklist items to the calendar, create clear and informative descriptions with embedded links to existing D2L content and activities, and structure checklists by unit or course milestones. Best practices for using a “Start Here” checklist to orient students at the beginning of the course will also be covered. When leveraged effectively, checklists serve as a powerful organizational tool, helping students manage their coursework with greater confidence.
