Navigating Digital Accessibility @ MSU Online
This workshop explores the basics of digital accessibility and the resources that are available to instructors at MSU. We will explore components of Universal Design for Learning and discuss the ways educators can apply these principles to their own courses. This course is intended for instructors of students at any level.
Facilitator:
Dr. Katherine (Katie) Knowles received her PhD in the Department of English at Michigan State University. She is also pursuing the Certification in College Teaching and earned the Graduate Certificate in Digital Humanities. She received her BA from Hanover College and her MA from the University of Birmingham’s Shakespeare Institute. Knowles has acted as both a GA and the instructor of record for a variety of IAH courses during her time at MSU, and she was a CTLI fellow for the 2023-2024 academic year during which she developed a project on Digital Accessibility at MSU.
Upon completion of this learning experience participants will be able to:
- Explain the importance of implementing digital accessibility practices in the classroom
- Recognize the concepts involved in universal design for learning (UDL)
- Identify resources related to digital accessibility that are available at MSU
- Discuss possibilities for making their new and/or existing courses accessible
