Common Knowledge Zine Fest In-Person
Zines are DIY, self-published missives usually emanating from marginalized or disempowered groups as a means expression and of connecting and building community. For decades, zines have shown how communities can create, connect, and build their own knowledge. The Open Access movement in the world of scholarly communication pursues similar ends, but in a totally different sphere, advocating for the free, public accessibility of scholarly research. This year’s Open Access Week emphasizes pursuit of a “future where individuals and communities own and benefit from their own knowledge.” To bring zines and the Open Access movement together for mutual inspiration, MSU Libraries welcomes the Common Knowledge Zine Fest.
This event is part of the MSU Libraries' celebration of International Open Access Week.
