Handle With Caution: Poison and Toxicity in Special Collections In-Person
In this pop-up, we’ll present physically and metaphorically dangerous items from Special Collections. Some of these books could harm you, like a (sealed) collection of wallpaper samples made with arsenic. “Cures” will be featured in the form of centuries-old handbooks of antidotes and advice. Some materials offer to heal the reader in ways that aren’t helpful, with ads for elixirs containing opium, alcohol, and petroleum. Others promote concepts that are destructive to human wellbeing and happiness. These materials may be hazardous to your health. Everyone is welcome!
