Get ready for Banned Books Week with a look at the most dangerous books in Special Collections!

We’ll start with a volume that’s literally toxic: Shadows from the Walls of Death, a collection of Victorian wallpaper printed with arsenic. Researchers don’t have to hold their breath…the pages are safely enclosed in plastic.

You can also peruse a 15th century witch hunter’s manual, Communist Party publications that terrified McCarthyites, and “quack medicine” remedies you don’t want to try!
