SUMMARY:SLXD: Leveraging Undergraduate Learning Assistants for High-Impact Teaching and Student Success
DESCRIPTION:Undergraduate Learning Assistants (ULAs) bring evidence-based
peer-instruction theory to life and are recognized nationally as a
high-impact practice that improves student learning\, belonging\, and
retention. In this session we will:\n\n\n	unpack the theoretical
foundations of the ULA model\;\n	spotlight MSU’s structures and services:
 communities\,  training\, and assessment tools that make ULAs possible\;
and\n	guide you in mapping where and how ULAs can add value in your own
lectures\, discussions\, and labs.\n\n\nUpon completion of this learning
experience\, participants will be able to:\n\n\n	Explain the theoretical
foundations of the ULA model and its alignment with high-impact educational
practices.\n	Analyze their own courses to identify where ULAs can
 strengthen student engagement\, equity\, and achievement.\n	Navigate
MSU’s campus infrastructure to connect to communities\, training\, and
assessment resources to allow them to recruit\, prepare\, and support ULAs
effectively.\n	\n\n\nSpecial thanks to Dr. Stephen Thomas\, Interim
Associate Dean for Curriculum in Undergraduate Education\, who will co-lead
the session and share technical expertise.\n\nThe in-person location for
this session is the Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation. Please
join us in the Main Library\, Room W207 (Training Room 1). For directions
to Room W207\, please visit the Room Locations page.
