SUMMARY:Helping Students Navigate AI: Strategies for Academic Advisors
DESCRIPTION:This presentation will provide advisors with strategies to help 
 students differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate AI 
 applications in their studies and applications to graduate and professional 
 schools. Topics include understanding when AI can aid learning (e.g.\, 
 research\, writing support\, data analysis) versus when it may compromise 
 academic integrity (e.g.\, cheating\, plagiarism). Attendees will leave 
 equipped to support students in using AI ethically and understanding of AI 
 as a complement—not a replacement—for independent learning and critical 
 thinking.\n\nUpon completion of this learning experience\, participants 
 will be able to:\n\n\n	Describe effective strategies for instructing 
 students on the appropriate and inappropriate uses of AI tools in their 
 coursework.\n	Explain the importance of reviewing course syllabi regarding 
 instructor’s expectations and course policies around the use of GenAI by 
 students. \n	Explore various AI tools and their potential benefits and 
 limitations in the context of academic success that are available to 
 students\, such as writing assistants\, study aids\, and research
