SUMMARY:NeuroSupport GPT: Demonstrating the Design Process of a Custom GPT for Inclusive Teaching
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nCustom Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPTs)\,
developed by OpenAI\, enable users to create specialized AI models to
support instructors in higher education. As enrollment of neurodivergent
students increases\, many do not disclose their neurodivergence\, limiting
access to necessary accommodations. At the same time\, instructors often
struggle to support these students due to a lack of awareness and training
in inclusive pedagogies. Custom GPTs can help bridge this gap by generating
content and shaping instructional approaches. They can explain
neurodivergent conditions such as ADHD and autism and recommend inclusive
teaching strategies aligned with Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
principles. Regular engagement with these tools can enhance instructors’
self-efficacy and confidence in implementing inclusive teaching
practices.\n\n\n\nIn this presentation\, we will share our experience
designing a custom GPT and demonstrate our development process using the
 ADDIE instructional design model (Analyze\, Design\, Develop\, Implement\,
Evaluate) to foster more inclusive learning environments. This custom GPT
is designed to deepen instructors’ understanding of neurodiversity and
equip them with evidence-based teaching strategies. It provides guidance on
UDL principles and effective course design to better support neurodivergent
students. Additionally\, we will share findings from a pilot study
examining user experiences with this custom GPT\, highlighting its impact
on instructors’ knowledge and confidence in inclusive teaching. After
this presentation\, attendees will gain insights into the process of
designing a custom GPT\, understand how the ADDIE model informs its
development\, and learn how AI-driven tools can support instructors in
implementing inclusive teaching practices and Universal Design for
 Learning.
