SUMMARY:Leveraging Course Analytics: Using D2L Insights to Inform Teaching and Classroom Research ***Drop-ins Welcome***
DESCRIPTION:Curious how the data already being collected in your D2L course
can support your teaching and SoTL research? In this hands-on workshop\,
we’ll explore how course analytics such as access patterns\, engagement
trends\, and assessment outcomes can offer valuable insights into student
learning. You’ll gain an overview of the types of data available through
D2L Insights\, learn how to interpret dashboards\, and consider how to
integrate these findings into classroom-based research. We’ll also cover
ethical and practical considerations when using student data and discuss
how course analytics can complement other SoTL methods like surveys or
reflections. Whether you’re tracking patterns of participation or testing
the impact of a new teaching approach\, this session will help you use
course analytics as a powerful tool for improving instruction and
supporting student success.\n\nUpon completion of this learning
experience\, participants will be able to:\n\n\n	explain the value of
course analytics as a rich data source for understanding student
 engagement\, performance\, and instructional impact\n	differentiate between
types of learning analytics (e.g.\, engagement metrics\, performance data\,
access patterns) and how they can support quantitative or mixed-methods
SoTL inquiries\n	identify relevant analytics available through MSU’s D2L
Insights dashboards and describe how these data sources align\n	interpret
D2L-based analytics to generate insights about student behaviors\, course
design effectiveness\, or learning outcomes\n	recognize ethical
considerations\, including FERPA compliance and data privacy\, when using
 D2L analytics for research purposes.\n
