SUMMARY:CANCELLED New Ways of Seeing the Past: Machine Learning\, X-ray Fluorescence\, and the Coins of Rome and Ancient Judea
DESCRIPTION:\n\n	\n \n Due to unexpected circumstances\, this event has
been cancelled\, and is expected to be rescheduled for Fall Semester
 2026.\n \n	\n\n\n\n \n\nWith Yaniv David Levy\, of the Israel Antiquities
Authority.\n\n \n\n\nCoins are one of the most ubiquitous artifacts of
Mediterranean archaeology. However\, many surface in a poor state for
analysis. Even with modern conservation techniques\, many remain
unidentified or imprecisely identified. Yet machine learning and x-ray
fluorescence can help us. AI is now providing data about ancient coins that
would otherwise be lost. This talk looks at the impact of these
technologies on the coins of the Hasmoneans (Maccabees) and Jewish rebels
 against Rome.\n\n \n
