Instructor Jumpstart: Part 2 In-Person / Online
Join the Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation (CTLI)- in partnership with the Office for Faculty and Academic Staff Development (OFASD)- for a two part introduction to high-level topics related to quality, inclusive teaching at Michigan State University. Each session in “Instructor Jumpstart” is a ninety-minute, hybrid, presentation, co-facilitated by Drs. Jeremy Van Hof and Ellie Louson.
This series is highly recommended for anyone new to MSU with a teaching appointment, but is relevant to any educator looking for a refresher at the start of the semester! You do not have to attend part 1 to participate in part 2 (and vice versa). Please use the outlines below to register for the sessions that make the most sense based on your needs.

Topics that will be covered include:
- Learning Design & Syllabi basics
- including but not limited to attendance/student leave, course materials, communication norms, modality considerations
- Engaging Students in the Classroom
- MSU’s Early Warning System for Students

Part 2: August 20, 2024 from 10-11:30am
Topics that will be covered include:
- Student Context & Culture
- Faculty Rights and Responsibilities
- Accessibility, Accommodations & RCPD
- FERPA
- Student Perceptions of Learning Survey
Note: this series is an overview of key considerations for in-class instructors. Additional Educator Onboarding workshops throughout the academic year will provide the opportunity to explore many topics and their pedagogical implications in depth.
